Focus and scope

International Journal of Glocal Tourism cover issues regarding:

  • global tourism (i.e. Tourism that crosses international borders; tourists travel from one country to another).
  • local tourism (i.e. Tourism that takes place within a tourist's own local or regional area), and
  • glocal tourism (i.e. A blend of "global" and "local"; refers to tourism that integrates global trends with local culture, values, and experiences). It is defined as the simultaneous occurrence of globalization and localization in tourism.

Glocal tourism is a tourism approach that combines global standards and best practices with local culture, traditions, and uniqueness. It aims to create a unique and authentic tourism experience that showcases the local identity while also meeting the expectations of global travelers. It involves:

- Adapting global tourism trends and technologies to local contexts

- Preserving and promoting local culture, traditions, and heritage

- Developing tourism products and services that are tailored to local needs and resources

- Fostering community engagement and participation in tourism development

- Balancing economic, social, and environmental sustainability

By embracing glocal tourism, destinations can:

- Differentiate themselves from other destinations

- Attract tourists who are looking for authentic and unique experiences

- Support local economic development and community well-being

- Preserve cultural heritage and natural resources

Overall, glocal tourism offers a promising approach to sustainable tourism development that benefits both local communities and tourists alike.
