KUB Sari Segara Penimbangan Community Strategy in Realizing Sustainable Marine Tourism in Pantai Indah, Buleleng

Abstract

Purpose: Sustainable marine tourism is not just an option, but an urgent need to maintain a balance between tourism exploration and marine ecosystem conservation. This study aims to analyze The KUB (Kelompok Usaha Bersama) Sari Segara Penimbangan Community in Pantai Indah, Baktiseraga Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali, Indonesia strategies in coral reef conservation as part of efforts to realize marine tourism aspirations.

Research methods: Beside participatory observation and document studies, semi-structured interviews with the Head of POKMASWAS (Kelompok Masyarakat Pengawas or Supervisory Community Group) who plays an active role in coastal community supervision and empowerment activities are held in this research.

Findings: Against the backdrop of increasingly disappointing marine ecosystem damage, the KUB community took real steps through coral transplantation activities, environmental education, and educational tourism development. Active community involvement not only accelerated coral reef recovery but also increased community ecological awareness and opened up alternative productive economic pathways. Collaboration built with local governments, historians, and non-governmental organizations further strengthened the resilience of the conservation program being implemented.

Implication: The strategy implemented by KUB Sari Segara shows that environmental conservation and improving community welfare are not two opposing goals, but rather mutually reinforcing. Through this approach, marine tourism is not only a means of recreation, but also a means of education and conservation.
